...and gimmie bread. I want a lot Lord. Am I being selfish? If I don't ask for myself, who will?
- Give us today our daily bread.
- Forgive us our sins,
- as we forgive those who sin against us.
Actually, I don't! I don't forgive those who may have sinned against me. If I haven't even forgiven myself for my own transgressions, how can I honestly be expected to forgive others? And, if I were to be honest, I hope they get caught, I hope that they pay for their sins in some manner, shape or form. I imagine that Dante probably spent many enjoyable hours designing his Inferno and matching certain of his friends, associates and enemies to one or other of his nine circles of hell.
"… I saw multitudes to every side of me; their howls were loud while, wheeling weights, they used their chests to push. They struck against each other; at that point, each turned around and, wheeling back those weights, cried out: Why do you hoard? Why do you squander?'
I went to an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting today. The group is sorta a yuppie, vain, "look at me" type of gathering of the drunks. Some of them practically are jumping out of their seats once the main speaker has finished, waving, gesturing, pleading to be called. When called, (I'm sure they believe they have been "chosen") it is immediately clear that they really had nothing to say, just wanted to be recognized.
A funny thing happened at the end of the meeting. People are asked to join hands. At some meetings they say the Lord's Prayer. At others they ask the Lord for strength. I noticed today that at this meeting there is competition even in the hand holding. Some of the members are celebrities in this clicky group. I noticed that the person next to me had been trying to reach over and join hands with one of the celebrities. When he was rejected, he was reluctant to take mine. I'm sure I made his day when I said, "Looks like you are stuck praying with just another old drunk".
